Have you ever come across a situation where your car turns on but doesn’t start? Or despite having a good battery, it still doesn’t start? What causes this?
The most common causes could be a faulty starter, a faulty alternator (which generates power for your car’s electrical components), or the engine not getting one of the elements it needs to start — fuel, air, spark, or compression.
What do you do? You identify the cause, or seek help identifying it, and give the car what it needs to keep moving. It requires occasional maintenance — a regular check to make sure it has what it needs to keep running.
Human life is similar. It needs time-to-time check-ins and maintenance. The mind or the body will start giving you signals before it breaks down.
A missing drive in life also means some crucial element required to keep you growing, moving, and living life to its fullest may be missing or faulty.
Sit with yourself, look around, and look deep — is it a faulty starter? Inertia, procrastination?
Or a faulty alternator, whose job is to convert chemical energy into electrical energy — the chemicals and hormones that lead to action?
Or one of the major components of life that’s missing — physical health, life purpose, love and relationships, or your environment: where and with whom you spend most of your time?
The lack of any of these will impact your emotional and mental health. And that’s when the battery drains — from dragging yourself through life without balance.
What do you do? The same as you’d do with your car.
- A jump start — connecting temporarily to another battery or power source. In human terms, this is connecting with someone whose energy can charge you up, staying close to that energy until you’re boosted again.
- A push or bump start — pushing the car and engaging the clutch to turn the engine over when the battery is weak. In human terms, this is procrastination and inertia — delaying action. The solution is action itself, without waiting to feel ready. Even brief action puts you back in rhythm and breaks the inertia, because you’ve already started.
- And third — look around. Is the climate or environment damp and cold? That’s the energy you’re surrounded by: the people you spend most time with, the issues you deal with daily, your diet, your sleep, the spark in your closest relationship, your sense of purpose, your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Are you spending time on things that energize you? Are you moving toward your purpose, or is it missing entirely? Are you surrounded by love that fuels you? Are you contributing service or support to someone in need? All of this matters — and any of it missing will leave you feeling lifeless.
Awareness is the first step. So now that you’re aware — what do you do about it? DIY, or connect with an expert?
Because a car with a dead battery, and a human merely existing rather than living, are both worth nothing.
